Bible 101

Session – 79

The Book of Joshua Chapters 3 to 5

In Sessions 78, we learned that the characteristics of God in the Bible don’t match up with reality.

Chapter 3

Same Old Story

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided (Ex. 14:21).

In Exodus, Moses parted the Red Sea with the help of a rod so the people of Israel could cross on dry land around 1446 BC. Forty years later, in the book of Joshua, around 1406 BC, the Israelites are at it again. Except this time around, they are using priests to hold up the ark of the covenant and hold back the Jordan River so they can cross onto the promised land. It’s the same old trick, just different props.

Why is this so significant? Because Moses never existed, the ark of the covenant disappeared and was never found again, like most items and people mentioned in the Bible. Yet it’s ironic we can find bones of dinosaurs that died millions of years ago, along with human remains that died hundreds of thousands of years ago, but not the bodies of those who gave birth to the stories between the pages of the Bible.

Chapter 4

Stoned!

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day (Josh. 4:9).

I’ve been to the Jordan River, which has more stones than the Rocky Mountains, making me believe whoever wrote this had to be stoned!

Chapter 5

Painful

At the time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time. And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins (Josh. 2-3).

Really? The hill of the foreskins? How convenient is that! According to Christian theology, God is a spirit with no solid mass. God’s personification is that of a creator and has such; every male child that cometh out of the womb would have been circumcised!
